Texas Woman Cecillia Simpson Murdered at Dallas PetSmart
Fatal Shooting Outside Dallas PetSmart Over a Disputed Courtesy
A woman in Texas was fatally shot in a PetSmart parking lot following an altercation over a perceived lack of gratitude for holding a door open, authorities reported.
41-year-old Cecilia Simpson was shot multiple times outside a Dallas location around 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Witnesses described how Simpson had previously opened a door for Keona Hampton, 22, at a nearby store. When Hampton did not thank her, an argument ensued, leading Simpson and her daughter to leave and head to PetSmart in the same shopping plaza.
Once inside the store, Simpson told employees that Hampton was following them. Hampton entered again and argued with Simpson’s daughter. After Hampton left, she returned and confronted Simpson herself. During the confrontation, Hampton allegedly initiated a physical fight, and it is reported she pulled out a handgun and fired, striking Simpson three times.
Hampton Arrested and Charged
Hampton was arrested during a traffic stop later that night and faces a murder charge. She admitted to the altercation but claimed she only drew her gun when the fight turned physical.
Eyewitness Accounts and Investigation
An emergency room nurse who witnessed the incident recounted that Hampton encouraged a physical fight outside, while Simpson and her daughter tried to de-escalate. Despite their efforts, the situation escalated to violence, resulting in Simpson’s death.
According to police, after being asked to leave, Hampton threw a bottle at Simpson’s vehicle. The nurse described performing CPR until paramedics arrived and highlighted the emotional toll of witnessing a mother’s final moments.
The incident underscores the dangers of small disputes escalating into violence, with authorities continuing their investigation into the events leading to the tragic shooting.
