Tuchel Slams Silent England Fans and Wembley Atmosphere After Wales Win
Thomas Tuchel Criticizes Lack of Atmosphere from England Fans after Comfortable Win Over Wales
Thomas Tuchel expressed disappointment with England supporters following their 3-0 victory over Wales at Wembley. Despite an impressive performance, the German coach was displeased with the atmosphere in the stadium, noting that the crowd remained largely silent during the match.
Fans engaged in Mexican waves and threw paper airplanes in the second half, as England secured the win within the first 20 minutes through goals from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka. Tuchel criticized the home crowd of approximately 70,000 for their subdued reaction, highlighting that many supporters left early amid underground transportation delays.
He remarked, “The stadium was silent. We never got any energy back from the fans. If you only hear Wales supporters, it’s a bit sad. The team deserved strong support. What more can we give in 20 minutes?” He compared the atmosphere unfavorably to that in Serbia, praising English fans’ passion in other contexts but feeling the Wembley atmosphere failed to match the team’s performance.
Tuchel added, “I stand by this — being 3-0 in a derby, I expected more support during difficult phases. In the second half, the support for Wales was louder than for us.”
Looking ahead, England will face Latvia on Tuesday, aiming to secure a spot in next summer’s World Cup. Tuchel anticipates that England will be underdogs in North America, stating, “We will be challengers and will face the big nations.”
Player Bukayo Saka, who scored a goal and showed significant potential, believes the team is heading in the right direction. “We have a lot of spirit, and I see what the coach is building. It’s exciting to be part of this growth, and I feel we’re making progress.”
Meanwhile, Wales manager Craig Bellamy defended the friendly’s scheduling, framing it as an opportunity to assess his team ahead of a crucial World Cup qualifier against Belgium. “We want to see where we are,” he said. “Today’s performance motivates us, especially for our young players to learn from this experience.”
Bukayo Saka scored England’s third goal early in the match, helping them establish dominance quickly.
