California Suspect Stops for Gas Amid High-Speed LAPD Chase

Suspect Escapes During High-Speed Chase and Vehicle Stop

An individual suspected of stealing a blue Infiniti managed to evade capture after stopping for gas during a high-speed police pursuit. The chase, which reached speeds of up to 100 MPH, was documented by news helicopter footage.

The suspect pulled into a Shell gas station in Wilshire, Los Angeles, with police in pursuit. While filling the tank, he appeared nervous, pacing beside his car and covering his face with a shirt, seemingly unaware that he was being recorded from above. Reportedly, no police vehicles were nearby at that moment, allowing him to take over a minute to refuel.

Video shows the man standing next to his open driver’s side door, ready to flee at any moment. A nearby motorcycle rider was oblivious to the scene, which heightened the suspicion surrounding the suspect’s behavior. As he finished fueling, he carefully reattached the gas pump and sped off from the station, with police quickly responding.

Despite the effort to evade arrest, the driver soon drove under an overpass of the 10 Freeway to hide from sight. While concealed, he abandoned the vehicle — which then collided with a light pole — but police were unable to apprehend him at that time. Authorities believe the suspect might have been picked up by another driver, aiding in his escape.

The incident highlighted the reckless behavior during the chase, with the suspect’s quick stop at the gas station described as “maybe his smartest move of the night” by the news helicopter reporter. While police are seen patrolling the area, the suspect remains at large.
