Aston Villa Interested in Chelsea Star as £53M Transfer Sparks Exit Talks

Aston Villa Shows Interest in Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku as Player Seeks Exit

Aston Villa has expressed interest in acquiring Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku, aiming to bolster their attacking options before the transfer window closes. Unai Emery’s team is aware of the financial terms Chelsea would require for the player’s transfer this summer.

Nkunku has been told he can find a new club after Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, confirmed he does not plan to include the Frenchman in his squad this season. The 27-year-old joined Chelsea in summer 2023, following impressive performances in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig, which also earned him a call-up to the French national team.

However, Nkunku suffered a knee injury upon arrival and has faced difficulties securing a regular spot since returning to full fitness. Last season, he managed only nine Premier League starts as Chelsea finished fourth and qualified for the Champions League.

Additionally, several Bundesliga clubs, including Bayern Munich and Nkunku’s former team Leipzig, are monitoring his situation. Notably, fellow Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson is also expected to leave the club this summer.

Manager Maresca recently indicated that both players are training alone as they prepare to depart. He said, “We’ll see if they’re still here after September 1. If not, it means they’ve found a solution. I think it’s better for them, as they’d be happier. Both are training separately and won’t be in the squad tomorrow.”
