Trump Rules Out U.S. Ground Troops in Ukraine

President Trump Rules Out US Troops in Ukraine, Offers Air Support

Former President Donald Trump clarified that the United States will not send military forces to Ukraine, but he indicated that some form of aerial assistance might be provided to support the war-torn nation. During an interview, he assured the public that there would be no American soldiers defending Ukraine’s border, emphasizing his aim to prevent further loss of life.

He also mentioned that the U.S. would support European allies, mainly through airpower, claiming that America possesses unmatched capabilities in this area. Trump suggested that European countries are likely to have boots on the ground in Ukraine, expressing confidence that Russia’s President Vladimir Putin is growing weary of the conflict and that a resolution may be near. However, he also acknowledged the possibility that Putin might refuse to negotiate a settlement.

At a recent White House gathering, Zelensky was present alongside several European leaders. Subsequently, Trump privately spoke with Putin, avoiding public displays of diplomacy to maintain respect for the Russian leader. During the call, Trump tried to facilitate a meeting between Putin and Zelensky, claiming Putin signaled willingness to participate.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has been seeking stronger security guarantees to deter future Russian invasions. While some U.S. officials have hinted that Russia’s Putin might accept a NATO-like alliance to defend Ukraine, the Russian Foreign Ministry has publicly rejected any military arrangements involving NATO forces, warning of uncontrollable escalation if such scenarios arise.

President Zelensky announced that Ukraine could receive a $90 billion security package funded by European countries, including U.S. military aid and advanced Ukrainian drones. His recent meeting with Trump was notably friendly, contrasting sharply with a previously tense encounter in the Oval Office that resulted in a shouting match.

Trump expressed cautious optimism about future negotiations, noting that Putin has agreed to meet with Zelensky, which he believes could lead to progress. He also warned that if Putin chooses not to engage constructively, the situation could become very difficult. Trump reflected on his relationship with Putin, emphasizing that he prioritizes results over personal rapport, aiming to save lives and bring stability to the conflict.
