Ronaldo Criticizes Saudi Pro League Critics, Highlights Competition & Star Power

Cristiano Ronaldo Criticizes Critics of the Saudi Pro League

Cristiano Ronaldo has subtly responded to critics of the Saudi Pro League, emphasizing the league’s competitiveness and the impressive number of star players it features.

The Portuguese star scored a hat-trick during Al-Nassr’s 4-0 friendly win against Rio Ave, highlighting his positive outlook on football in Saudi Arabia. When asked about the recent signing of his Portugal teammate Joao Felix—who transferred from Chelsea in a £26 million deal—Ronaldo expressed confidence in the league’s quality.

He remarked, “Everyone knows Joao; he’s very talented. I believe he’ll contribute significantly to our team and the league, which is very competitive.”

Responding to speculation that he influenced Felix’s decision to join Al-Nassr rather than rejoining Benfica, Ronaldo dismissed such notions, saying, “Stealing is bad form. No one has ever stolen from Benfica.” He pointed out the league’s appeal, citing the numerous stars playing there.

He added, “I didn’t call Felix or try to persuade him; that’s not my role. My focus is on training and competing.”

Ronaldo, who has scored four goals in three pre-season matches at age 40, is eager to secure his first Saudi Pro League title since his arrival from Manchester United in 2022. His last major success was winning the Nations League with Portugal last season.

His comments and performance underline his belief in the league’s strength and his commitment to achieving further success in Saudi Arabia.
