Child Witnesses Family Tragedy in Florida Murder-Suicide

A 5-year-old girl witnessed her father commit a horrific act, killing her mother, grandmother, and aunt before taking his own life in a Florida home. The young girl managed to escape and seek help from neighbors, sparing her from harm in the brutal incident.

The authorities responded to the scene in Hilliard on July 24, where they found three women dead and the suspect, Christopher Bobby Rowell, grievously injured. He was alive with a faint pulse when taken to the hospital but later succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was discovered beside an SKS-style rifle, indicating a suicide attempt.

The victims included Marissa Leara Rowell, 32, her mother Sandra Gayle Fogarty, 71, and her sister Alisha Lael Fogarty, 33. Family members described Marissa as a devoted mother and the primary caregiver for her daughter. Sandra was a beloved grandmother who had eagerly awaited her first granddaughter, and Alisha was known for her close bond with her niece, often spending hours playing and caring for her.

Authorities reported that the child was unharmed, having been protected by a relative during the chaos. The girl’s account revealed she heard gunshots while in the back of the house, saw a woman fall to the floor, and was then shielded in the bathroom as violence unfolded.
