Nevada Mom, 28, Claims Dumpster Was Her “Best Option” After Abandoning Newborn

Nevada Mother Arrested for Abandoning Newborn in Dumpster

A mother in Nevada was detained after reportedly discarding her newborn into a trash bin, stating it was her “best option” at the time. The 28-year-old, Taylor Sierra Dickinson, is facing charges including attempted murder after her infant was found in Sun Valley.

Police say Dickinson, married with two children, claimed she did not know she was pregnant until she gave birth in a nearby bathroom on July 5. In her panic, she wrapped the newborn in a towel and placed him in a garbage bag, then abandoned him in the trash. The infant, tied in the bag, was discovered approximately ten hours later after a passerby heard crying and rescued him from the waste receptacle.

Emergency responders rushed the baby to a hospital, where he remains in stable condition. Sheriff Darin Balaam praised the quick action of a community member, emphasizing that the baby’s survival was due to their bravery. He added, “There are safe, legal options for anyone in crisis, and no baby should ever be left in danger.”

Under Nevada’s Safe Haven Law, parents can legally surrender their newborns at hospitals, fire stations, or law enforcement agencies within 30 days of birth. Dickinson was held on a $1 million cash-only bail and faces additional charges of child abuse, neglect, or endangerment.
