Liverpool to Honor Diogo Jota on Emotional Day at Deepdale

Liverpool to Pay Tribute to Diogo Jota in an Emotional Match at Deepdale

Liverpool are preparing for a profoundly emotional occasion as they play their first match since the tragic death of striker Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, in a car accident in northern Spain on July 3.

Initially, the upcoming pre-season game against Preston was expected to be a joyful event, marking Liverpool’s return as reigning Premier League champions. However, the atmosphere will now be somber and heartfelt, as the club honors the memory of Jota and his brother.

A minute’s silence will be held before the kickoff at 3pm, and tributes will be displayed on screens and pitch-side LED boards. Both Liverpool and Preston players will wear black armbands, and Preston will lay a wreath in front of the away end. Additionally, fans will sing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” in remembrance of the brothers.

In a touching tribute, Liverpool has retired Jota’s shirt number 20 across all teams, following consultation with his wife, Rute, and his family.

The fixture at Deepdale has been transformed into a memorial event, reflecting the deep impact of the loss on the football community and highlighting the bond between players and fans during this difficult time.
