Bill Clinton’s Shocking Endorsement: Why He’s Backing Andrew Cuomo for NYC Mayor!
Former President Bill Clinton Endorses Andrew Cuomo for NYC Mayor
In a public message, Bill Clinton has officially backed his former Housing Secretary, Andrew Cuomo, in the upcoming New York City mayoral primary. Clinton described the city as being in a state of crisis and praised Cuomo as a capable leader suited to address these challenges.
Clinton’s endorsement was delivered via a recorded robocall, urging voters to support Cuomo in the election. He emphasized Cuomo’s experience in government, noting his work on affordable housing and efforts to combat hate and discrimination during his time in the White House.
“He’s a fighter who knows how to get government to work,” Clinton stated. “At a time when our basic rights are under threat, I believe he will stand up and protect New Yorkers.” Clinton also highlighted Cuomo’s ability to raise the city’s progressive standards.
Cuomo responded to the endorsement with gratitude, calling Clinton a mentor and hero. Despite resigning as governor in 2021 amid sexual harassment allegations, Cuomo is aiming for a political comeback by running for mayor. He has denied all allegations.
Clinton’s presidential term was also marred by scandal, notably his affair with Monica Lewinsky which led to impeachment proceedings, though he was acquitted by the Senate and chose not to resign.
The endorsement comes just days before Tuesday’s primary election. Older Democratic figure Jim Clyburn has also endorsed Cuomo, and recent polls show Cuomo leading socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani, though his lead has narrowed since earlier in the year.
