Virginia Woman Arrested in Hamptons Hit-and-Run That Killed Sara Burack

A 32-year-old marine biologist was taken into custody following a fatal hit-and-run incident involving well-known Hamptons real estate agent Sara Burack. Kempton was driving when she struck Burack, who was walking along Montauk Highway pulling a pink suitcase. Due to foggy conditions, Kempton reportedly did not see her and believed she hit a traffic cone, according to her attorney.

After the accident, Kempton left the scene and later discovered Burack’s large pink suitcase trapped beneath her vehicle at a friend’s house. Authorities tracked her vehicle using license plate readers and found damage to the front end parked at her family’s residence.

During her court appearance, Kempton, who has a background in microbiology and marine biology, pleaded not guilty and was released on bail after her family posted collateral of $100,000. Her lawyer stated she believed she had hit a traffic cone and was unaware of hitting Burack. She was also described as a flight risk, as she had been scheduled to return to Virginia for a wedding.

Burack, 40, known for her work in high-end real estate and as a star on the Netflix show “Million Dollar Beach House,” was walking in the westbound lane carrying a pink suitcase when struck. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident occurred in foggy conditions, and alcohol was not considered a factor, her attorney confirmed. Kempton faces up to seven years in prison on a felony charge of leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
