Emma Heming Shares Update on Bruce Willis’s Living Situation Amid Dementia Battle
Bruce Willis Moves to a Separate Home as He Battles Dementia
Emma Heming, the wife of Bruce Willis, has shared that she made the difficult choice to move the actor into a different residence to better accommodate his health condition.
“Bruce would want that for our daughters,” Heming explained during a recent interview, highlighting her concern for their children, Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11. “He would want them in a home suited to their needs, not his.”
While Willis now resides with a dedicated care team, Heming and their daughters continue to visit him regularly for meals. The couple’s children, Mabel and Evelyn, often come over for breakfast and dinner. Willis, 70, also maintains a close relationship with his adult daughters Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah from his previous marriage to Demi Moore.
Heming revealed the decision while promoting her upcoming memoir, The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope and Yourself on the Caregiving Path, set to be released on September 9. The book discusses Willis’ health decline, which became publicly known after his retirement from acting in 2022 due to an aphasia diagnosis.
Understanding Willis’ Condition
Aphasia, as explained by the Mayo Clinic, affects speech and the ability to understand and produce written and spoken language. Heming noted that Willis, despite his cognitive challenges, remains physically healthy and mobile, but his mental faculties are deteriorating, making communication difficult for him and his loved ones.
Heming expressed her emotional experience, recalling how she sometimes glimpses her husband’s lively personality through fleeting moments—a hearty laugh or a knowing look, which she treasures all the more as his condition progresses.
