Hochul Leads Stefanik in New York Gov Race: Siena Poll
Poll Shows Narrower Margin Between Governor Hochul and GOP Challenger
A recent survey indicates that Governor Kathy Hochul is leading Rep. Elise Stefanik by just 14 points in a potential gubernatorial race, a decrease from previous margins. The Siena University poll reveals that Hochul’s lead has diminished from 23% in June and is the smallest since a 2021 race when she narrowly won.
According to the poll spokesperson, Stefanik can emphasize that Hochul’s current lead isn’t a commanding majority, especially since Hochul does not yet have the 51% support needed for a clear victory. At this stage, Stefanik has a notable advantage among certain voter groups, including independents, where she leads 35% to 32%, and suburban voters in counties like Nassau and Westchester, with 41% to 39%. These groups had previously favored Hochul or her predecessors.
The poll also indicates Stefanik’s potential, as approximately 49% of voters are somewhat or very familiar with her, leaving room for her to expand her support base. Conversely, Hochul continues to face more negative perceptions, with unfavorable ratings surpassing favorable ones—42% versus 44%. Overall, 41% of respondents believe New York is on the right track, while 45% think the state is heading in the wrong direction.
