Teen Shooter Charged with Attempted Murder Near Stonewall Inn

A 17-year-old male suspect has been formally charged with attempted murder following a shooting incident near the historic Stonewall Inn in Manhattan during Pride celebrations. The incident occurred on June 29, around Sheridan Square, just steps from the landmark.

The event unfolded late at night when a 16-year-old girl, who was with friends, fired shots at a male target, missing him but hitting an innocent bystander instead. One of the bullets traveled approximately 100 feet before striking a visiting 17-year-old girl from New Jersey, who was standing with a friend.

During the chaos, the girl’s boyfriend, also 17 and armed, responded by firing wildly at the group, unintentionally hitting his girlfriend in the head. She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition and remains in urgent care. Authorities recovered her weapon at the scene.

The unintended victim, a teenage girl, suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh and was admitted with non-life-threatening injuries. Her mother, Star Lopez, expressed relief that her daughter survived, stating, “I prefer this to organizing a wake and picking out caskets.”

The shooter’s arraignment is expected soon, and investigations are ongoing. The incident highlights the dangers of gunfire during public celebrations, with authorities emphasizing safety concerns in the wake of the event.
