NYC Beer-Loving Shoplifter with 200+ Busts Strikes Again—Quickly Freed
Serial Shoplifter Faces New Charges for Stealing Beer
A habitual shoplifter with over 200 arrests is facing fresh theft charges after police say he stole multiple bottles of Modelo beer from a Manhattan pharmacy. The suspect, 53-year-old Laron Mack, has a long history of similar offenses and has targeted the same store on Broadway multiple times.
Recent incidents include attempting to steal 18 bottles of Modelo on Monday, and previous thefts involving cases of beer, sandwiches, yogurt, and other items from the same location. Mack, who often targets this specific retailer, has also been linked to stealing Charmin toilet paper and items from other stores like Walgreen’s.
Despite numerous arrests, Mack’s charges have often resulted in him being released without bail due to laws enacted in 2019 that limit detention for certain crimes. He has been involved in at least three open larceny cases in Manhattan, including a recent incident just a day before his latest arrest.

In addition to thefts, Mack has been involved in incidents of violence. After being released following last week’s arrest, he assaulted a photographer by knocking the camera from his hands, punching him, and smashing equipment—an attack reminiscent of a prior incident in 2022 where Mack damaged a photographer’s camera.
Photographic evidence shows Mack’s persistent pattern of shoplifting and aggressive behavior, often stealing his favorite beer—Modelo—and other items from Manhattan stores. Despite his extensive criminal record, the court system’s inability to keep him detained continues, highlighting ongoing challenges with the reforms.
Additional details and images of Mack’s repeated offenses illustrate a troubling pattern of petty thefts and violence, raising ongoing concerns about repeated offenders and law enforcement efforts.
