Burger King Mom of 3 Fights to Keep Store Running Solo After Co-worker Quits

Dedicated Burger King Employee Holds Down Store Alone to Support Her Children

A Burger King worker from South Carolina gained widespread admiration for her determination to support her three children, even when faced with staffing shortages. Nykia Hamilton, 25, had to operate the entire store by herself after a co-worker quit unexpectedly.

In a viral TikTok video, a customer documented Hamilton’s effort, stating she was “doing everything—the fries, burgers, chicken sandwiches—all on her own.” Hamilton worked over 12 hours in one shift, taking on duties from dishwashing and prep to managing the front counter and drive-thru, despite the store being severely understaffed.

“I miss out on my kids’ lives because I work so much,” Hamilton shared emotionally, explaining her relentless work ethic to provide for her family. The next day, she returned to another solo closing shift due to ongoing staffing issues, highlighting the lack of available employees.

The TikTok video praised her for “busting her behind” despite having no assistance, with viewers expressing outrage at management for leaving her alone. Comments called her efforts “unfair” and praised her as a “beautiful queen” deserving of recognition and support. Many suggested she start a GoFundMe to help cover her children’s expenses, which she has since done, revealing she works two jobs to make ends meet.

Following the surge of support, Burger King responded by stating that working solo is against company policy. They assured the community they are investigating the situation and will take appropriate action.
