Crystal Palace CEO Discusses Adam Wharton’s Future Amid Interest from Top Clubs
Crystal Palace’s co-owner, Steve Parish, has publicly expressed his confidence in Adam Wharton’s commitment to the club, despite widespread interest from major European clubs. Wharton aims to compete in the Champions League, but currently remains dedicated to Palace, whom he joined for a bargain £18 million in 2024. The 21-year-old midfielder has seen his value rise to approximately £75 million after helping Palace secure an FA Cup victory and participating in the Europa Conference League.
Interest from clubs such as Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Tottenham has been reported, with Manchester United reportedly preparing a £60 million bid. Parish indicated that Palace plans to strengthen Wharton’s contract, possibly including a substantial release clause, to secure his future. He reiterated the club’s belief in Wharton’s potential, saying, “He’s an extraordinary talent,” and emphasized the player’s focus on his development and aim to secure a regular spot in the England squad.
Though Wharton was recently excluded from England’s squad by coach Thomas Tuchel, he remains on the radar for future selection. His impressive performances, including a standout game against Everton, have been praised by teammates and observers alike. Palace is also considering adding new talent, such as 19-year-old Kees Smit from AZ Alkmaar, to maintain a competitive squad as they navigate contract negotiations and potential transfers.
Parish stressed that Palace is not under pressure to sell Wharton, who has two years remaining on his current contract. The club aims to retain their promising midfielder while supporting his aspirations, with discussions about a new deal expected to strengthen their position.
