Darius McCrary Arrested Near US-Mexico Border Over Felony Warrant
Actor Darius McCrary, known for his role in “Family Matters,” was detained near the California border with Mexico on Sunday due to an outstanding felony warrant from another state, according to reports. He is currently held in a San Diego jail and is not eligible for bail.
McCrary was apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol agents during a routine check. Official booking records at the border describe the incident as a “fugitive arrest”—a designation used for individuals wanted in other states. He was photographed at the border, where he was involved in a charitable project with a partner in Tijuana to develop homeless shelters.
His representative explained that the warrant originated from Michigan, stemming from missed court appearances related to child support obligations. The account claims McCrary received an improper legal notice, sent to his PO Box, with only three days to respond, which coincided with his recovery from COVID-19. She states that McCrary was unaware of the court date until after it had passed.
This is not McCrary’s first legal issue involving child support. In November 2023, he was also arrested for reportedly owing over $52,000 in unpaid child support. His claims suggest that debts involve his eldest son Zecheriah, who is 18 and benefits from a trust fund, with the child’s mother alleging claims for money. The actor’s spokesperson emphasizes that he currently owes no child support to this particular mother.
McCrary is scheduled to appear before a judge in San Diego on Wednesday to address the charges related to his arrest.
