ICE to Be Everywhere at the Super Bowl
ICE Planning Presence at Super Bowl Halftime Show, According to Official
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) plans to be actively involved during the upcoming Super Bowl, as announced by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. This move comes amid heightened tensions around the event and prominent performers.
Noem revealed the details on a recent podcast hosted by Benny Johnson, where she emphasized that ICE authorities would be stationed throughout the event. She expressed a strong stance that only law-abiding Americans should attend the game and its halftime show.
The announcement has sparked controversy, especially given the performance of Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny, who has openly criticized policies affecting immigration enforcement. Several right-wing figures, including Johnson, have voiced their opinions, criticizing the NFL’s choice to feature Bad Bunny, accusing him of anti-American sentiments and opposing U.S. policies.
Additional comments from Noem’s aides further fueled the debate. Corey Lewandowski described Bad Bunny in disparaging terms, accusing him of hatred towards America and criticizing his language and cultural background. Critics argue these statements reflect a politically motivated campaign against the artist.
During last night’s Saturday Night Live, Bad Bunny avoided addressing ICE’s involvement directly but highlighted his contributions to the United States. In his monologue, he celebrated Latinos and Latinas who have paved the way for others, asserting that their contributions cannot be erased. He closed with a humorous remark in English, urging those unfamiliar with Spanish to learn the language within four months.
As of now, neither Bad Bunny nor the NFL has responded to the governmental threats or the controversy surrounding ICE’s proposed presence at the event.
