Pogba’s First Match Back? Monaco Boss Gives Update on Return Against English Team

Potential Return of Paul Pogba to First-Team Action

Paul Pogba, now 32, could soon make his comeback in competitive football during an upcoming Champions League match. His manager has indicated that Pogba might feature against Tottenham in Europe’s premier club competition, a game scheduled for October 22.

Pogba signed with Monaco in June but has yet to appear in an official match. After an 18-month ban due to doping violations, the club has implemented a careful recovery process. Pogba has emphasized his desire to return only when fully fit, stating, “I don’t want to come back unless I feel like myself. Fans want to see the real Paul Pogba.”

While it remains uncertain whether Pogba will be available for Monaco’s match against Angers on October 18 or the following Champions League fixture, manager Adi Hutter noted that Pogba is gradually increasing his involvement with the team. He hopes Pogba might play a limited role in the Angers game, with the possibility of a full return against Tottenham.

Hutter explained that Pogba’s progression depends on his own assessment and discussions with the coaching staff, including the technical director. The coach envisions possibly easing him back with around 15-20 minutes of play in the next few matches.

Even off the pitch, Pogba’s influence is felt, as he has been present in the dressing room, offering encouragement and guidance to younger players. His experience includes winning the World Cup with France, four Serie A titles with Juventus, and trophies with Manchester United.

Pogba’s career faced a major setback in September 2023 when he received a four-year suspension for doping, later reduced to 18 months. His contract with Juventus was terminated last November. Despite this, Pogba remains committed to revitalizing his career, with aspirations to rejoin the French national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
