Rabbis for Ceasefire Protesters Arrested Blocking Brooklyn Bridge Traffic
Protesters Block Traffic on Brooklyn Bridge During Yom Kippur Vigil
Several dozen protesters affiliated with “Rabbis for Ceasefire” were detained after they halted traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge on Thursday afternoon. Authorities confirmed that at least 56 demonstrators were arrested during this event.
The rally, held as part of the Yom Kippur observance, involved rabbis and rabbinical students advocating for Palestine and protesting Israel’s military operations in Gaza. Participants gathered around 3:30 p.m. at Brooklyn Borough Hall to perform the Yizkor ritual, a memorial prayer customary on Jewish holidays.
Video footage shows protesters seated in the road with a banner reading “not another bomb,” as police moved in to make arrests. Many of those cuffed appeared passive, often singing as officers warned them they could face disorderly conduct charges. The NYPD responded rapidly, arresting dozens of individuals while some protesters clapped and sang in Hebrew to show solidarity.
