NJ Teens’ Killer Planned Hit-and-Run At:ta:ck for Months, Say Families
Teen Driver Charged with First-Degree Murder in Fatal Crash
A 17-year-old male driver, accused of intentionally hitting two teenage girls on their e-bikes, is facing serious charges after the incident in Cranford. The families of Maria Niotis and Isabella Salas revealed that the attack was premeditated, with the driver plotting the assault over several months, and targeted Maria specifically.
The victims were struck around 5:30 p.m. as they pedaled through a suburban neighborhood. The driver, operating a black 2021 Jeep with tinted windows, fled the scene but was shortly later detained by authorities. Both girls succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The driver remains in custody, and due to his age, details about the case are limited as it is being handled as a juvenile matter.
The families described the driver as a “coward of a man” and emphasized that this was not a mere accident or hit-and-run, but an act of first-degree murder. They asserted that he is fully competent and medicated, dismissing any claims of insanity.
A police official linked to the case noted that the suspect, who is related in some way to the neighboring town’s police chief, was “planning this attack for months.” The families strongly reject the idea that this was an accident, calling it “murder in the first degree.”
