Flooding in Arizona Leads to Four Fatalities and Extensive Damage

Heavy rainfall caused severe floods across parts of Arizona, resulting in four deaths and emergency rescue operations. Some residents in rural communities were forced to seek shelter on their rooftops amid rising waters.

In Globe, a historic mining town approximately 88 miles east of Phoenix, three individuals lost their lives when floodwaters overwhelmed the area. Authorities recovered two bodies from a vehicle and one from the floodwaters but have not publicly identified them yet. Additionally, another person was found dead in the suburbs of Phoenix after their vehicle was partially submerged in about eight feet of rushing water on Friday evening.

Images depict widespread destruction, including debris, mud, and damaged buildings, with roughly 1,000 propane tanks scattered throughout downtown Globe. Fortunately, no explosions occurred, and hazmat teams have been dispatched to handle the situation. The town’s officials have declared an emergency, noting that this flooding surpasses any previous events in recent memory, especially following a wildfire in 2021.

The storm’s intensity was unprecedented, with the rapid influx of rain overwhelming drainage systems and flooding the city center. Authorities warn against self-directed search efforts in floodwaters, as rescue teams—accompanied by dogs—are actively searching for missing persons. Residents are advised to stay clear of hazardous areas and instead focus on helping neighbors and friends in need.

Mayor Al Gamero emphasized community solidarity, citing numerous volunteers assisting with rescue efforts, while urging people to remain cautious until it’s confirmed that the area is safe. The extensive damage and the surge in emergency responses mark an extraordinary weather event for the region.
