Woman Loses All Limbs After Dog Attack

An incident involving a feral dog left an Oklahoma woman with life-altering injuries, resulting in the amputation of both arms and legs. The attack occurred in early September after the dog, which was owned by a man recently jailed, escaped from its confinement.

While riding her bike with her boyfriend, Janelle Scott was suddenly ambushed by a pit bull that knocked her off and began attacking. Her boyfriend attempted to help and managed to kill the dog in self-defense, but another dog, present at the scene, was not involved in the attack. The dogs belonged to the jailed owner and were being watched by a friend at the time. The police reported that the dogs had possibly been released from their enclosure after the nearby trailer they lived in was reportedly broken into that day.

Janelle Scott, after the attack
Janelle Scott lost both her arms and legs in a brutal dog attack.

The assault left Scott with severe injuries; her right arm was mangled down to the bone, initially thought to be just a dislocated joint. However, her injuries proved to be too extensive, leading to the amputation of all her limbs last Friday. Her condition remains critical, and her family has reported the possibility of further amputation of her remaining left leg.

Hospitalized woman with medical tubes
Scott has been hospitalized for nearly a month following the attack.

Despite the trauma and ongoing surgeries, Scott’s mother expressed admiration for her daughter’s resilience. She explained that, although the injuries were devastating, she remains hopeful that her daughter will recover and find purpose, emphasizing her strength and fighting spirit in the face of adversity.

As Scott prepares for potential further surgeries to support prosthetic use, her family has launched a GoFundMe campaign, which has already raised nearly $19,000 to cover medical expenses.
