Sam Kerr’s Grandmother Passes Away Months After Miracle Recovery
Matildas Star Sam Kerr Mourns Grandmother Coral
Soccer star Sam Kerr is mourning the loss of her beloved grandmother, Coral, who passed away at the age of 90. The news was confirmed recently, nearly ten months after Coral was seriously injured when she was hit by a ute in Perth.
Coral’s family and friends paid tribute to her, describing her as a resilient and spirited woman. An obituary outlined her roles as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, expressing that her presence would be deeply missed but she would never be forgotten.
Coral was injured after stepping off a bus near her home in the Perth suburb of Palmyra last December. The incident involved a ute driven by Mark John Britt, 63, who has been charged with dangerous driving resulting in serious injury. The crash left Coral with multiple fractures and internal injuries, requiring months of hospitalization and rehabilitation.
Despite her critical condition, Coral made a remarkable recovery, walking unassisted into her 90th birthday celebration in April. She expressed surprise at her age and her resilience, recalling her injuries, including a broken pelvis, shin, and ankle, as well as a rod in her leg.
During the celebration, Coral shared her relief and happiness at being able to attend, noting she had no memory of the accident. Her family praised her strength and positive attitude during her recovery, with her grandsons highlighting her incredible resilience.
Sam Kerr, who was in London at the time of the birthday, posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, thanking supporters for their love and prayers. She shared her closeness to Coral, describing her as a very special person in her life.
Coral’s family remembered her as a strong woman who had never been under anesthesia before her accident. Neighbors recalled her as a calm and resilient individual, even after the trauma of being hit and lying unconscious on the pavement.
