Charlie Sheen has revealed that his daughter Sami played a pivotal role in helping him overcome decades of substance abuse. In his recent memoir, “The Book of Sheen”, he recounts a turning point in December 2017. After a morning of drinking whiskey coffees, he realized he was too intoxicated to drive and asked a friend to take over. His daughter Sami, then 21, was notably distant during that ride, and Charlie sensed her disappointment as he was again unable to take her to an appointment.
Charlie admits that knowing he was failing as a parent was more disappointing than betraying himself. He describes Sami’s disappointment in his behavior and recalls thinking, “When will that moment ever return? When will Dad ever return? I miss him.”
On the following day, Charlie took a step towards sobriety by taking two Valiums and drinking three beers, vowing in his memoir to stay sober from that point forward. Since then, he claims he has maintained his sobriety.
Sami, now 21, has publicly shared her estranged relationship with her father, including a TikTok video where she referenced Charlie’s infamous 2011 interview in which he joked about having drugs in his home. Sami captioned her video, “When people wonder why I haven’t spoken to my dad in a year but this is my dad.”
Sami has spoken openly about their strained relationship. Earlier this year, she shared her frustrations in a TikTok video suggesting her father might still be using drugs, mocking a journalist’s question about drugs in his house with sarcastic remarks. Sami’s messaging reflects ongoing tension, as she indicated she hasn’t been in contact with her father for a year. She previously described feeling conflicted about familial bonds, stating, “I would rather do literally anything else than go to lunch with my father.”
Charlie at times minimized the severity of his past drug use in interviews, responding to questions about drugs in his house with joking dismissiveness. Despite his past controversies, he maintains that he’s now committed to sobriety, aiming for a healthier relationship with his children.
