Phantom Ferrari Thief Caught After 6 Years on the Run in Czech Republic

Czech Authorities Capture Speeding Ferrari-Style Racer After Six Years of Evasion

After years of elusive high-speed chases, Czech police have apprehended an anonymous driver notorious for reckless driving across motorways in a vehicle resembling a Formula 1 car. The driver, often seen racing in a full racing suit, has been identified as operating a Dallara GP2/08 race car—a model linked to lower-tier racing series that feed into Formula One.

The vehicle was recently tracked to a property in the village of Bulk, approximately 37 miles from Prague. Authorities followed the car to the site, where they detained a 51-year-old man behind the wheel. The arrest came after several years of sightings and attempts to identify the driver, who previously denied involvement when first tracked in 2019.

Footage from Sunday morning shows the car speeding along the D4 motorway and stopping at a gas station. Authorities reported that the driver resisted police and claimed outsiders were trespassing when approached. His family criticized the police response, describing it as disproportionate to a supposed traffic violation, citing the large police presence and helicopter deployment.

The suspect was eventually taken to a police station for questioning while still wearing his racing gear. According to police, he chose not to comment on the incident, and proceedings will now focus on administrative charges. He faces a fine of several thousand Czech crowns and a driving suspension.

The driver’s identity remains unconfirmed, especially since his face was obscured by a helmet during previous sightings. Despite its nickname, the car is technically a race vehicle, often mistaken for a Ferrari due to its appearance and speed, but it is a high-performance racing car primarily used in feeder series for F1.
