Ex-Roma Chief Reveals Jose Mourinho’s True Nature & Surprising Message After Manchester United Exit

Ex-Roma Executive Shares Insights on Working with Jose Mourinho and a Notable Message upon His Departure

Guido Fienga, the former CEO of AS Roma, has opened up about his experience working alongside Jose Mourinho during his tenure at the club. Appointed in 2021, Mourinho’s leadership lasted only four months under Fienga’s administration, but the former executive recalls it as a challenging yet respectful collaboration.

Fienga describes Mourinho as highly intelligent and skilled, though he acknowledges that working with him was not always straightforward. “In private, he’s very funny. Managing him is a great challenge but rewarding,” Fienga stated. He recounted an intense first match where Roma received four red cards, highlighting Mourinho’s fiery style of management.

Despite the difficulties, Fienga maintains a positive relationship with Mourinho, stating that their connection remains strong thanks to the brief period they worked together. He shared an anecdote of Mourinho approaching him upon his exit, saying, “Guido, there are only two alpha males in this club, and now one is leaving.” Fienga responded with a simple, “Good for you,” emphasizing their mutual respect.

Fienga also reflected on the demanding nature of his role, likening it to being a firefighter constantly battling fires, especially considering Mourinho’s tendency to clash with referees and league authorities. Nevertheless, he praises Mourinho’s intelligence and skill, noting that he has many stories yet chooses to keep some private to protect their reputations.

Mourinho’s tenure at Roma saw success, including winning the Conference League in 2022 and reaching the Europa League final the following season. His stint ended in January 2024 after a string of poor results.

Following his departure from Roma, Mourinho moved to Fenerbahce in June 2024, but his time in Turkey was short-lived, concluding in dismissal last month after failing to qualify the club for the Champions League.
