England Fans Roar ‘Stop the Boats’ at Keir Starmer Before World Cup Qualifier
England Supporters Boo and Chant at Keir Starmer During World Cup Qualifier
England fans directed abusive chants at Labour leader Keir Starmer during the team’s 2-0 victory over Andorra at Villa Park. Supporters in the Holte End could be heard singing derogatory remarks about Starmer to the tune of The White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army, including lines like “Starmer is a ****”.
Prior to the match, vendors outside the stadium sold Union Jack flags with “stop the boats” slogans, referencing ongoing debates over immigration policies amid the migrant crisis. During the game, some fans also chanted: “Keir Starmer is a w****r”. These chants echoed similar behavior from supporters at a previous fixture against Andorra in June.
The uninspiring match, played away from its original location in Andorra, saw limited attendance. Despite the disruptions, England secured a comfortable victory through a header by Declan Rice and an own goal by Christian Garcia.
England head coach Thomas Tuchel condemned the chanting, stating he did not hear any offensive songs during the match. “If it happened, it’s not acceptable,” he said during the press conference.
