Laura Loomer: Almost a Cabinet Member Now
Influential Figure Laura Loomer Disrupts US Intelligence and Politics
Laura Loomer, a notorious conspiracy theorist known for her extremist views, continues to exert considerable influence within the Trump administration despite lacking an official government role. Her power was recently demonstrated when she reportedly caused the cancellation of a classified visit by Senator Mark Warner (D-Va.) to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), an important military intelligence facility.
Warner indicated that his visit was planned as an oversight tour but was abruptly called off after Loomer launched social media attacks calling him a “Russia Hoaxer” and criticizing the NGA’s Director, Vice Admiral Frank Whitworth, for his Biden-era appointment. Loomer questioned why a Democrat was allowed to host a Trump-era oversight visit at a top intelligence agency, implying a political bias within the Pentagon and intelligence community.
Senator Warner responded by stating that Loomer “is essentially acting as a Cabinet member” and suggested her influence surpasses that of prominent officials like Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. He pointed to her involvement in the firing of key officials, including the National Security Adviser, and her role in revoking security clearances for numerous officials, highlighting her significant sway over national security matters.
Loomer claimed she learned of the cancelled meeting from inside sources and called for Warner’s removal from office, alleging treason. She also demanded Whitworth be dismissed, emphasizing her aggressive and unorthodox approach to political activism and influence.
Experts and critics have compared her growing power to authoritarian regimes, warning of threats to congressional oversight. Warner expressed concerns that Loomer’s influence could undermine democratic accountability, especially as recent oversight visits have been denied at immigration detention centers.
Known for her divisive politics, Loomer’s career is marked by open racism, anti-Muslim rhetoric, and alliances with white nationalists. Despite losing her congressional bid, she has increased her influence, notably in shaping US policy toward Gaza and Palestinian visas, actively advocating for restrictive measures against Palestinians and promoting far-right narratives.
