Joao Pedro: Living in London Drew Me to Chelsea, Not Newcastle — ‘Great Chance’ of Top Trophy Win
Joao Pedro Explains His Choice to Join Chelsea Over Newcastle
Joao Pedro, the 23-year-old forward, revealed that his decision to sign with Chelsea was influenced by his desire to return to London, after spending two years playing with Brighton. Despite Newcastle United showing strong interest and submitting a £50 million bid, Pedro preferred the prospect of playing in the capital with Chelsea.
He officially joined Chelsea in July for around £60 million, after contributing 10 goals and six assists last season. Since arriving, he has made an impressive start, scoring twice in his first three Premier League matches and helping the team secure the Club World Cup.
Pedro now lives near Chelsea’s training ground in Cobham, Surrey. Reflecting on his move, he stated, “When I was in Brighton, I was missing London a little bit. I had a chance to move elsewhere, but I chose Chelsea because it’s in London, it’s a great club, and I knew it was the right decision.”
The talented striker has big ambitions, including aiming for the Premier League title, winning the Golden Boot, and even the Ballon d’Or. “It’s early to say, but I believe we have a good chance to win the league. Competing for the Golden Boot will be tough with other top strikers, but I believe everything is possible,” he said.
His strong performances have even earned him a call-up to the Brazil national team for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia. Currently tied in second place on the league’s top scorer list with two goals, Pedro is looking to continue his goal-scoring form at the international level.
