Man United Sells Antony to Real Betis for £50M Loss on Deadline Day
Manchester United agree to sell Antony to Real Betis at a significant loss
Manchester United has reached an agreement to transfer winger Antony to Real Betis, resulting in a financial loss for the club. The Spanish team initially shelved negotiations after a £25 million deal was set, citing disagreements over severance and wage payments. Ultimately, United has agreed to sell Antony for just £21.6 million, which includes a fixed fee of £19.6 million plus £2 million in potential bonuses.
Additionally, United has secured a 50% sell-on clause for the Brazilian player. Antony, 25, will soon undergo a medical in Seville ahead of completing his move. The Brazilian winger previously played for Ajax before his transfer to Manchester United for £86 million. During his time at Old Trafford, Antony scored 12 goals in 96 appearances and struggled to establish consistency.
He became popular at Betis last season, scoring nine goals in 26 appearances under coach Manuel Pellegrini, and played a key role in their run to the Conference League final, where they lost 4-1 to Chelsea.
Antony’s spell at Manchester United has come to an end with his return to Real Betis.
