Former U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber, 43, Dies from Epilepsy
Death Cause of Former US Attorney Jessica Aber Confirmed
Jessica Aber, a former US Attorney appointed during the Biden administration, passed away unexpectedly over five months ago, with her cause of death now publicly disclosed as a “sudden unexpected death in epilepsy.” She was found at her home in Alexandria, Virginia, on March 22, shortly after resigning from her high-ranking position. The local Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that she died peacefully in her sleep due to epileptic seizures.
Initially, authorities indicated there was no evidence suggesting foul play or unnatural causes. Aber’s family shared that she had battled epilepsy and experienced epileptic seizures for many years. Her death has prompted reflections on her significant career, including leading prosecutions involving high-profile cases like a CIA leaker and Russian war criminals.
She gained national recognition for her three years heading the Eastern District of Virginia’s office, where she oversaw investigations and prosecutions of notable cases, including the conviction of ex-CIA analyst Asif Rahman for leaking sensitive documents about Israel’s plans to strike Iran. Rahman’s guilty plea led to a delay in Israel’s retaliatory actions against Tehran. Additionally, Aber prosecuted a Virginia-based company accused of illegally transferring American technology to Russia, and she was involved in indicting Russian soldiers for war crimes in Ukraine.
Aber had been a prominent figure in law enforcement, notable for her dedication to justice in complex cases. Her death, caused by epilepsy, marks a significant loss to the legal community and highlights the health challenges she endured for years.
