Chris Martin Defends Coldplay Kiss Cam After Astronomer Controversy
Coldplay Frontman Continues Kiss Cam Tradition Amid Scandal
Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, has expressed his intention to keep using the kiss cam during concerts despite recent controversy. During a show in Hull, England, Martin addressed a viral incident where he caught former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron allegedly cheating with Kristin Cabot, the company’s former HR chief.
Martin joked about the incident, saying, “Life throws you lemons and you’ve got to make lemonade,” and reaffirmed that the band plans to continue the tradition as a way to connect with fans.
While engaging with concertgoers and reading signs, Martin noticed a fan who attended the show three times in three months. He sarcastically responded, “You were at that Boston gig,” referencing a previous concert at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts where Byron and Cabot were caught canoodling on the kiss cam. Martin joked, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy,” prompting the pair to hide from the camera. It was later confirmed that both were married to others at the time.
The viral video led to significant fallout. Byron’s wife, Megan Kerrigan Byron, removed her surname from Facebook and eventually deleted her profile, while Kristin Cabot is believed to be married to CEO Andrew Cabot of Privateer Rum. Byron himself resigned from Astronomer less than a day after the incident, with the company emphasizing that leaders should exemplify conduct and accountability.
Despite the scandal, Martin reaffirmed his commitment to the kiss cam tradition, stating, “We are going to meet some of you,” embracing the lighthearted approach to the situation.
