Pete Davidson on How Ariana Grande’s ‘BDE’ Talk Hurt Him
Pete Davidson Opens Up About His Past Relationships and Media Focus on His Private Life
Comedian Pete Davidson recently reflected on the challenges he faced with media scrutiny and personal relationships. During his appearance on “The Breakfast Club,” he admitted that the conversations and rumors about his private life, particularly surrounding his anatomy, were hurtful and embarrassing.
Davidson explained that while he was often seen as unsuccessful or less handsome compared to industry standards, the persistent focus on his private attributes affected him deeply. “It’s Hollywood. Everybody f–ks everyone. Why are they focusing on me?” he questioned, revealing that media attention was heightened because he doesn’t fit conventional beauty norms.
He recounted how friends, castmates, and family observed his discomfort and sadness over the constant speculation. “No one was outrightly mean, but everyone noticed I was sad and embarrassed,” he shared.
The Rumors and Media Speculation
When asked about the origin of rumors regarding his supposed large size, Davidson referenced his relationship with Ariana Grande. “I think it was the New York Times or something when I started dating someone they thought was out of my league. They started calling me ‘big d–k energy,’ and someone confirmed it,” he said, adding that he found the attention embarrassing and overwhelming.
Grande herself once joked about her ex-fiancé’s size, joking, “Like 10 inches? …oh f–k… I mean…like a lil over a minute,” which further fueled speculation.
Impact on Personal Life
Davidson expressed frustration about how the media’s focus on his private life overshadowed his work. “Living through that is traumatic. It’s like living in your own crap all the time,” he admitted. He also suggested that the attention stemmed partly from his perceived lack of traditional handsomeness.
He reflected that the intense sexualization he faced was unfair, especially since similar attention directed at women would be widely condemned.
Relationships and Breakups
The comedian’s high-profile romance with Grande began in May 2018, culminating in an engagement a few weeks later. Grande jokingly addressed the rumors about his size on social media, suggesting he was “a lil over a minute,” after fans questioned her about his length.
The pair ended their engagement and split in October 2018 after five months. Grande is now dating her co-star Ethan Slater, and Davidson is expecting his first child with his girlfriend Elsie Hewitt.
