Mansfield Town’s 15 Years with the Radfords: Rebuilding & Aspiring for the Championship

Celebrating 15 Years of Progress at Mansfield Town

As Mansfield Town approaches its 15th anniversary under the ownership of Carolyn and John Radford, reflections on their journey reveal remarkable transformation. When they took over in September 2010, the club faced significant financial difficulties, with only around 2,000 fans attending their first game at a borrowed ground and training in a local park.

Today, Mansfield is a stable and thriving EFL club, currently competing in its second season in League One after earning promotion in 2024. The club boasts an excellent training ground and a packed One Call Stadium, which has a capacity of 9,186 and is often sold out. The Radfords regained full control of the stadium in 2012, contributing to the club’s renewed vitality.

Co-owners Carolyn, CEO, and John, chairman, are proud of their achievements, including the club’s promotion and the community role it now plays. The club has become a local hub for fans and residents, with investments into charitable initiatives aimed at helping young and disadvantaged individuals through the Radford Foundation. Carolyn emphasizes the importance of community pride and bringing people together through sport, especially during tough times.

The Radfords’ leadership has earned widespread respect, with Mansfield managers praising their dedication. In 2024, they received a mayoral award recognizing their contributions to the town. Carolyn, also a lawyer, is a trailblazer as one of the few women in football executive roles, balancing her responsibilities while raising three teenage boys who are passionate about the club.

Despite the challenges, including a difficult 2024-25 season marked by controversy and a player’s legal issues, Mansfield’s on-pitch performance has shown resilience. A promising victory earlier in the season kept hopes alive for a first-time promotion to the Championship. Manager Nigel Clough recently signed a new contract, aiming to build on the club’s stability and youth development.

Looking forward, the Radfords aspire for Mansfield to achieve further success, including deep runs in cup competitions and eventual promotion to higher tiers. Carolyn reflects humbly on their journey, emphasizing their commitment to leaving the club better than they found it and fostering its role as a pillar of the local community.
