Gyokeres £64m Arsenal Transfer Linked to Shooting and Blackmail in Sweden

Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres Transfer Linked to Shooting and Blackmail in Sweden

Viktor Gyokeres’ potential £64 million move to Arsenal is now associated with a serious criminal investigation in Sweden. Authorities are examining links between the transfer and a shooting incident involving a family member of Gyokeres’ agent, which occurred in Huddinge near Stockholm.

The police are probing why two gunshots were fired at the residence of a relative of the player’s agent, who had reportedly bragged about receiving part of the transfer cash. Investigators suspect the violence may be connected to the transfer deal, with motives possibly rooted in blackmail or financial pressure.

Representatives for Gyokeres stated, “This is a vulnerable industry where such incidents unfortunately happen. This shooting has nothing to do with me or football.”

Earlier this summer, Sporting Lisbon’s president Frederico Varandas emphasized that the club would not sell Gyokeres due to threats or insults, indicating they would not accept a low fee for the player. Despite negotiations, Sporting maintained that they would not pursue the club’s €100 million release clause, even amid mounting transfer speculation.

Varandas explained that negotiations included discussions about clauses and transfer values, insisting that Sporting values Gyokeres highly and will not entertain blackmail or threats.

Arsenal is hopeful Gyokeres will fill a long-standing need for a dedicated striker. Having scored 97 goals over two seasons with Sporting, he is seen as a promising addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad.
