Rio Ferdinand’s TNT Sports Replacement: Champions League Legend Joins Punditry Team
Revealed: Rio Ferdinand’s TNT Sports replacement as a five-time Champions League winner joins the punditry team
TNT Sports has announced its new pundit to replace Rio Ferdinand for the upcoming 2025-26 season. Ferdinand, who spent over a decade with TNT following his earlier stint with BT Sport, announced his departure in May to focus on his business ventures. The former Manchester United defender expressed his gratitude for the opportunities provided by the broadcaster and highlighted his enjoyment covering the sport over the years.
Stepping into Ferdinand’s role is Gareth Bale, the former Wales and Real Madrid winger. Bale impressed TNT executives with his insightful analysis during the Europa League final between Tottenham and Manchester United in May. The 36-year-old has signed a deal to cover Premier League and Champions League matches in the upcoming season.
Bale retired from professional football in 2023, following a brief period in MLS with LAFC, where he helped the team secure its first MLS Cup victory. Throughout his career, Bale won five Champions League titles with Real Madrid and captained Wales during their first World Cup appearance since 1958 in 2022.
He will join other pundits like Peter Crouch, Joe Cole, Steve McManaman, and Karen Carney. TNT Sports holds the rights to broadcast 52 top-flight games this season, beginning with Aston Villa’s fixture against Newcastle.
