Abbott Accuses Crockett of Racism Over Texas Gerrymander

Texas Governor Attacks Rep. Crockett Over Voting Rights Claims

Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently responded to comments by Rep. Jasmine Crockett regarding the state’s new redistricting maps. Crockett highlighted that the map diminishes the voting power of Black, Hispanic, and Asian voters, with African Americans supposedly holding only one-fifth of their fair influence and Latinos just a third, while Asian communities—growing rapidly—are left with virtually no power.

Fox News Sunday aired a clip of Crockett criticizing the map’s impact on minority voters. In his reply, Abbott made a controversial remark, suggesting that Crockett’s statement was racially motivated. He said, “Well, first of all, it would not be a day that ends with the letter y if Jasmine Crockett didn’t say something racist.”

Abbott’s dismissive and inflammatory response underscores the partisan tensions surrounding redistricting issues in Texas, with critics arguing that such maps disproportionately weaken minority voting power. His comments have sparked further debate over electoral fairness and racial representation in the state.
