David Justice Reveals Why He Left Halle Berry

Halle Berry’s First Marriage and Divorcement

Halle Berry’s first husband, former baseball player David Justice, revealed that he chose to leave her in 1996 because he couldn’t envision her as the mother of his children. Justice shared on a podcast that his limited understanding of relationships at the time influenced his decision.

“I looked at my own mother and thought a wife should cook, clean, and be traditional,” he explained. He questioned if Berry was the right partner to start a family with, noting she didn’t embody those traditional qualities, which led to issues in their relationship.

Justice mentioned that their demanding careers kept them apart, which also contributed to their breakup. He stated they might have stayed together if they had known about therapy.

Justice admitted he didn’t fully commit to the marriage, which Berry proposed after only five months of dating. Their marriage took place in January 1993 but ended in separation by February 1996, with the divorce finalized in June 1997.

Justice married Berry in 1993, but their relationship was strained by their busy careers and his uncertainty about the marriage.

Justice also revealed that his decision to leave her was partly influenced by their busy professional lives and a lack of awareness about mental health resources like therapy. Berry, on her part, once sought a restraining order against Justice, citing concerns for her safety, which he denied, emphasizing he posed no threat.

Despite their separation, Berry moved on to marry singer Eric Benét and Olivier Martinez, and she is currently dating Van Hunt.

Berry has two children from previous relationships: Nahla, 17, with Gabriel Aubry, and Maceo-Robert, 11, with Olivier Martinez.
