Long Island Fire Chief Peter Alt Cursed and Yelled at Child, Says Mom in Viral Video

Fire Chief Caught on Video Yelling at Distressed Child During Emergency

The mother of a 10-year-old girl, visibly upset and crying as she was placed into an ambulance, described her daughter’s experience as a failure on the part of first responders. During the incident, a viral video captured North Babylon Volunteer Fire Chief Peter Alt yelling, “Shut the f–k up,” at the girl, who was distressed after her phone was taken away.

In the video, the girl screams, “I don’t want to go! I want to go home,” while Alt responds angrily, telling her to “Shut your mouth” as the ambulance doors close. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many criticizing Alt’s behavior, which some argue was unprofessional and cruel.

Alt, a 22-year veteran, was temporarily relieved of his duties on August 5 as an investigation is underway. The fire company emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable and does not reflect their standards. Meanwhile, police officers present at the scene reported the incident to their superiors, and internal affairs have been notified.

The child’s family, which has previously called first responders for the girl, noted that officers had always been understanding during past incidents. The child’s grandmother conveyed concern over her granddaughter’s emotional well-being, stating she has developed anxiety and is reluctant to attend school. She also raised questions about potential racial factors, though no racially charged comments were evident in the video.

This incident has also attracted attention outside emergency services, with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority stating that Alt, who is also a conductor for the Long Island Rail Road, is being held from duty pending a full review.

The viral clip has amassed over 4.5 million views on TikTok, prompting calls for accountability and a reflection on the treatment of vulnerable individuals in emergency situations.
