John Souttar Open to Rangers Contract Extension as Final Year Approaches
John Souttar Open to Contract Extension at Rangers
John Souttar has expressed his willingness to negotiate a new deal with Rangers. The defender, who joined the club on a free transfer from Hearts in 2022, is approaching the final year of his current contract.
In the absence of captain James Tavernier, the 28-year-old was entrusted with the armband for last night’s 3-0 victory over Viktoria Plzen. His commanding performance was instrumental in helping Rangers secure a solid position in the Champions League play-offs.
Reacting to his display, manager Russell Martin praised Souttar highly but clarified that discussions regarding his contract are handled by the player’s agent and club officials. Souttar himself, for the first time under Martin’s tenure, voiced a clear positive outlook about his future at the club.
“I love this club and being part of it,” Souttar stated. “I haven’t heard anything different, but I focus on training hard daily. Every time I play for Rangers, I give my best because it’s a special place.”

Although other clubs may show interest from January, Souttar remains focused on his current team and is waiting to see what unfolds. “Whatever happens, happens. I’m proud to wear this jersey and will continue to give my all whenever I step onto the pitch,” he added.
Contract talks are not currently his main concern, as he is focused on adapting to the tactical approach under the new manager. Souttar highlighted the team’s improved performance following recent critique, emphasizing quick passing, composure, and engaging the best players on the pitch.

He also praised the developing partnership with Nasser Djiga, noting that it’s still early days but seeing promise in their collaboration. “We’re only a few games into playing together, and I believe we’ve got much more to show,” Souttar said. “As we continue to build understanding, our partnership will grow stronger.”

Overall, Souttar remains committed to Rangers, focusing on team progress and personal development as he looks forward to future challenges.
