A tragic incident occurred when a one-year-old girl drowned in a pool outside a Bronx day care center. The caregiver, a 47-year-old woman, was momentarily distracted after stepping away to prepare food.

Responding to a 911 call around 12:50 p.m. on Friday, police found the young girl unconscious and unresponsive in the water at the home-based day care on Story Avenue near Olmstead Avenue in Castle Hill. She was immediately rushed to Montefiore Einstein Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

According to authorities, the caregiver had been cooking for approximately 20 minutes when she realized she had lost sight of the girl. The child was discovered lifeless in the pool, with no signs of immediate criminal activity. The girl has not been identified publicly, and police have not indicated any suspicion of wrongdoing at this time.

An official investigation is ongoing, and the city’s medical examiner will determine the cause of death. No arrests have been made.
