Fire Disrupts PATH Train Service in Jersey City

A fire broke out beneath a PATH train at Newport station in Jersey City early Monday, leading to significant service disruptions across multiple transit lines.

The incident occurred around 6:15 a.m., when a fire under an eastbound train caused passengers to evacuate due to smoke filling the car. Dramatic footage captured the moment flames spilled from the rear of the train as emergency crews responded.

Witnesses reported seeing large flames emanating from the end of the train, with some passengers yelling to be let out as the car rapidly filled with smoke. Emergency responders quickly arrived, and several passengers were treated for smoke inhalation at Newport station.
