Tragic Death of 9-Year-Old Girl at Hersheypark Wave Pool

A nine-year-old girl, a cherished member of the Bhutanese community in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, lost her life after an incident at Hersheypark’s wave pool. Despite immediate rescue efforts by lifeguards, who quickly responded and attempted to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The girl was pulled from the water unresponsive, described as “limp,” and the incident has shaken the local community. Hersheypark officials confirmed that the wave pool, known as the Boardwalk, was staffed with over 100 trained lifeguards, including ten specifically assigned to the wave pool area, all holding the highest levels of certification. The park maintains that their safety measures and staffing are adequate.

The incident marks the first fatality at Hersheypark since 1977. Community members expressed deep grief, flooding social media with condolences and support. The Bhutanese community in Harrisburg described her as full of promise, innocence, and joy, emphasizing the profound loss felt by all who knew her.
