Trump Admin Pursues 13K Migrant Kids After Biden Loss of 320K: ‘Children Are Being Saved’
Recent Efforts to Locate and Protect Migrant Children
The current administration has successfully found and rescued over 13,000 unaccompanied migrant children who crossed the border into the United States. This is a significant recovery following reports that more than 320,000 such children went missing during the previous administration.
Authorities have also taken action against hundreds of sponsors accused of crimes or abuse involving these minors. In Newark, ICE agents arrested Adelso Garcia Martinez, a 29-year-old Guatemalan wanted for attempted homicide in his home country. ICE officials commented on the dangers of harboring a fugitive and sponsoring another migrant.
In one disturbing case, a teenager was rescued in New York after it was discovered that an Ecuadorian man, who had been in a relationship with her since she was 13, impregnated her before she crossed the border. His mother later sponsored her so they could live together. The man was detained by Homeland Security agents.
Reports reveal that under past policies, many minors were released into the U.S. with sponsors who were not properly vetted, increasing their vulnerability to trafficking and exploitation. An investigation was launched into this lax oversight, with officials emphasizing efforts to recover children lost or endangered under previous policies.
Some of the rescued minors were victims of sex trafficking and forced labor. For example, children working on farms or ranches without attending school have been identified, highlighting ongoing concerns about exploitation. Many children simply avoid court calls to evade deportation consequences, complicating efforts to ensure their safety.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated that open borders and lenient policies under the previous administration contributed to the rise of human trafficking operations. She expressed confidence that, with renewed focus and leadership, the U.S. can combat and eradicate these trafficking networks.
Children who are rescued are either reunited with their families abroad or placed in foster care. Meanwhile, officials continue to investigate and address the troubling cases involving migrant minors, aiming to provide safety and justice for vulnerable youth.
