Charlie Woods, aspiring golfer and son of Tiger Woods, is showing promise as he seeks to establish his own presence on the golf course.

Tiger Woods, widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers in history, has offered a surprising piece of advice to his son: instead of mimicking his own swing, Charlie should study Rory McIlroy’s technique. Woods, a 15-time major champion, has set the gold standard in golf, but he believes Charlie can benefit from learning from other top players.

Woods explained, “I told Charlie, don’t copy my swing. Copy Rory’s.” Having watched McIlroy’s development over the years, Woods respects his competitor and friend, and believes his son can learn a lot from observing him.

His involvement in Charlie’s golf journey is evident, as Woods has previously carried his son’s bag during practice. Reflecting on those moments, Woods Jr. mentioned, “It’s great. We focus on one shot at a time, and my dad keeps me grounded. He helps me stay focused and aware of what I need to do.”

Charlie will have another opportunity to study McIlroy’s swing during the upcoming Open Championship, held in Northern Ireland for the first time since 2019. McIlroy hopes to improve upon his previous performance, where he missed the cut.

Reflecting on his return to Portrush, McIlroy shared, “In 2019, I tried to disconnect, but now I embrace the atmosphere. Accepting the cheers and interactions makes the experience more enjoyable and genuine. I want to face everything that comes my way and make the most of it for everyone involved.”
