Colbert Fires Back at Trump Over ‘Late Show’ Cancellation Celebration
Stephen Colbert Fuels Angry Response After ‘Late Show’ Cancellation Announcement
During a recent broadcast, Stephen Colbert sharply criticized Donald Trump after the former president celebrated the upcoming end of ‘The Late Show’. Colbert’s response was outspoken and filled with expletives, including a direct insult: “F**K you, Donald Trump!”
In a clip from the show, Colbert addressed Trump’s reaction to the cancellation notice and didn’t hold back, questioning his decency with, “How dare you, sir? … Go f**k yourself.” The audience, comprising major Hollywood personalities such as Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, John Oliver, Jon Stewart, Adam Sandler, Andy Cohen, and CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, cheered loudly, showing their support for Colbert following CBS’s announcement that his show will end in May 2026.
On his own show, Jon Stewart expressed his admiration, saying, “Watching Stephen’s program become the top late-night show has been a genuine pleasure.” He also criticized CBS’s parent company, Paramount Global, for a $16 million settlement with Trump over a “60 Minutes” interview with Kamala Harris, labeling it “an extortion fee.”
Colbert attributed the show’s cancellation to the current political environment, emphasizing the influence of Trump’s actions on national institutions. He vowed not to be intimidated by the “bullying” and openly declared his disapproval of Trump, stating, “I don’t care for the prez.”
Alongside Colbert’s criticisms, other comedians and celebrities voiced their disappointment. Ben Stiller, Rachel Zegler, Adam Scott, and Jimmy Kimmel expressed sadness over the show’s ending, with Kimmel criticising CBS directly.
Meanwhile, opinions remain divided. Dave Portnoy criticized Colbert as arrogant, claiming capitalism is behind the cancellation. The industry’s reactions highlight widespread controversy over the show’s conclusion, with many awaiting further developments.
