Sen. Graham Warns Putin: Trump’s Coming to Hit Hard
U.S. Politicians Threaten Stronger Sanctions and Military Support Amid Ukraine Conflict
Senator Lindsey Graham warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin might face increased pressure and consequences if Moscow refuses to negotiate a peace agreement with Ukraine. Graham emphasized that President Trump’s firm stance on foreign conflicts, including Russia’s war in Ukraine, signals forthcoming impactful actions.
Graham compared Trump to a formidable figure in both politics and diplomacy, suggesting he is prepared to enforce tough measures. He highlighted that if Russia continues its aggression, especially with economic sanctions and tariffs targeting countries that buy Russian oil—such as China, India, and Brazil—the Russian war effort could be significantly weakened. These nations currently import about 80% of Russian oil, fueling Moscow’s military activities.
On July 14, Trump issued a stern warning, demanding that Russia come to the bargaining table within 50 days, or face heavy tariffs targeting imports like oil and uranium. Additionally, he announced plans to supply Ukraine with billions of dollars worth of advanced weaponry, including Patriot missile batteries, with European allies expected to shoulder the costs.
Despite these threats, Russia continued its assault on Ukraine, firing drones and missiles at Kyiv on Sunday night. The increased hostilities underscore the ongoing intensity of the conflict.
Graham, who has introduced bipartisan legislation imposing sanctions on Russia, stated that while sanctions might not cripple Putin immediately, global efforts, especially from major buyers of Russian fuel, can weaken Moscow’s military capabilities. He stressed that President Putin’s miscalculations could have severe economic repercussions for Russia.
