Rebecca De Mornay Praises Ex Tom Cruise in Exclusive Interview

Rebecca De Mornay Praises Her Former Co-Star Tom Cruise

Rebecca De Mornay expressed her admiration for Tom Cruise, highlighting her pride in his achievements. During an interview promoting her new film, Saint Clare, she shared her positive feelings about the actor, with whom she was romantically involved for nearly three years after they met on the set of Risky Business in 1982.

She reflected on how their careers began together, noting that the 1983 movie was instrumental in launching both their pathways. De Mornay described Cruise as a “major chord,” while she saw herself as a “minor chord.”

“He’s like, ‘I am Top Gun,’ and that’s what America really wanted,” she said, praising his ability to interpret contemporary culture. She marveled at his success trajectory, noting, “We started this together and look what he did with it.”

Following her breakout role, De Mornay deliberately chose to steer away from glamorous parts, opting instead for grittier characters. Her career includes projects like Runaway Train, Backdraft, and the series Jessica Jones. Her latest appearance is in Saint Clare, a thriller where Bella Thorne stars as a serial killer targeting misbehaving men.

De Mornay explained that she was drawn to the role because scripts featuring a female serial killer obsessed with Joan of Arc are rare. She wanted to support this unique project, noting she didn’t initially see parallels with real events, such as recent news involving figures like Jeffrey Epstein.

“I never even thought of that,” she said. “It’s freaky that that would come into it…Like, I didn’t see that coming when I read it.”

Saint Clare is now available for streaming.
